Dr. Kathleen Staz

Weekdays. Children, adolescents, adults, and families.

I have a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Toronto. I completed a pre-doctoral internship with the University Health Network. Prior to my internship, I completed a practicum placement at the Vanier Centre for Women/Maplehurst Correctional Institute. I also completed a practicum in the Neuropsychology Service at Toronto Western Hospital.

My dissertation research focused on how individual differences in mothering and mood change how one’s brain responds to their newborn. This work reflects the passion that I have for parenting and child development. I have experience working with individuals and families who are experiencing difficulties such as social anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, health-related anxiety, depression, adjustment to challenging life circumstances, grief and trauma, oppositional/disruptive behavioural concerns, eating disorders, and personality disorders. I am also experienced at providing assessment services for learning and other difficulties.

My primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, although I incorporate themes from mindfulness and other acceptance-based therapies, attachment theory, motivational interviewing and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, as indicated by the goals/needs of my clients. I have experience with individual and group therapy. I see adults, adolescents, children, and families.
